Sewer Jetter Troubleshooting

Many common problems with sewer and hydro-jetters can be easily resolved with basic troubleshooting. Our troubleshooting guide can help you diagnose and fix problems with engine start-up, water pressure and flow, brake systems, and so on. We recommend you consult your Spartan owner's manual for additional operating information and to contact your Territory Manager for questions about your jetter performance.

Symptom: Engine will not run

CAUSES REMEDIES

Fuel tank empty

Fill fuel tank and bleed air from fuel system (see engine operator's manual)

Fuel valve shutoff

Turn fuel valve on

Water level low

Fill water tank or check low water shut-down

Oil pressure low

Check oil line to rear of unit, replace as required

Coolant temperature high

Check coolant level and thermostat, refill and replace as needed

Symptom: Low pressure or flow

CAUSES REMEDIES

Clogged inlet filter

Clean inlet filter element

Jetting nozzle worn

Check for wear of nozzle orifice, replace if necessary (use only approved jetting nozzle)

Symptom: Erratic flow pressure

CAUSES REMEDIES

Worn or dirty pump valves

Clean or replace

Worn or dirty regulator valves

Clean or replace

Worn jetting nozzle

Replace jetting nozzle (use only approved jetting nozzle)

Symptom: Noisy pump

CAUSES REMEDIES

Low oil level

Add or replace oil

Worn or dirty valves

Clean or replace

Bad bearings

Inspect and replace as required

Symptom: No brakes

CAUSES REMEDIES

Open circuits

Find and correct

Severe underadjustments

Adjust brakes

Faulty controller

Test and correct

Short circuits

Find and correct

Symptom: Weak brakes

CAUSES REMEDIES

Grease or oil on magnets or linings

Clean or replace

Corroded connections

Clean and correct cause of corrosion

Worn linings or magnets

Replace

Scoured or grooved brake drums

Machine drums or replace

Improper synchronization

Correct

Underadjustment

Adjust brakes

Glazed linings

Refurnish or replace

Overloaded trailer

Correct to proper load size

Symptom: Weak brakes
