If I Knew Then What I Know Now...

Posted by Spartan Tool on Feb 01, 2019

We asked our followers on social media who are in the drain cleaning industry "What do you wish you knew when you were starting in the drain cleaning industry? What advice would you pass on to those who are just getting started?" Here's what they had to say:

Listen to the machine, it will actually "tell" you what's going on. EASE through stoppages, run several feet past them to make sure you just didn't push the obstruction further down the line. Get a jetter, make more money easier. - Brandon Hedrick, Pro Plumbing, Heating & Air

Let the cable and cutter do the work. - Mike Sekach, Spartan Tool, previously The Service Pros

Treat your customers with respect and go above and beyond. - Dan Peebles, Bulldog Sewer & Drain

I got a trailer jetter 3 months ago and my auger machine has only been used once since we got the jetter. Our jetter goes out to several jobs a week. Jetting is the way to go. - Andrews Plumbing, Sewer & Drain Cleaning

When using a drain cable with a cutting head make sure to pull your cable back about a foot every 4'-5' to avoid burying your cable in a weak section of pipe/drains ect...otherwise you'll be digging for a while. - Ryan Banghart, Banghart Plumbing LLC

Keep your mouth closed. - Ben Johnson, Greg Bowen Plumbing

Safety glasses and no loose clothing, if you're going to use rubber gloves put leather ones over them or pay the price. - Brandon Hedrick, Pro Plumbing, Heating & Air
