Join us every month as we highlight customers who have become part of our Spartan Tool family in our Pro of the Month Series.
This month, we are featuring Richard Sachs, owner of Drain Away Sewer Service Inc. in Stamford, CT.
Richard Sachs built his business from the ashes of the recession. Prior to founding Drain Away Sewer Service in 2014, he had a successful restoration business that was affected by the Great Recession. He sold that business in 2010 and decided to make a change to the plumbing industry. After learning the business for a few years with a big company in Manhattan, he came back to his hometown and founded Drain Away.
Since he founded the business in 2014, Richard has built it from the ground up. His wife works with him as his partner, taking care of the administrative responsibilities. He’s expanded to three trucks and has been a HomeAdvisor Best Of Winner five years in a row.
Drain Away operates a full arsenal of Spartan Tool equipment, including two Model 100s, two Model 300s, a Model 1065, 727, the SparVision camera, and a 758 skid-mount jetter. Richard says Spartan equipment is “the Cadillac of drain cleaning machines. The best equipment – it’s solid.”
Spartan equipment makes life easier for Drain Away. Richard says the closed drum on Spartan’s cable machines “is better for cleanliness and safety.”
The addition of the 758 skid-mount jetter multiplied productivity for Drain Away. It has a longer reach, eliminating time spent connecting extra cable to a drum machine. It’s powerful, shortening the time to clear the obstruction to as little as 20 minutes. And less time spent at a job site means more customers served.
Excellent customer service is a cornerstone of Richard’s business success. He says, “Give people a fair price, work hard, and it’ll pay off. If you treat your customers well, they’ll come back.” Drain Away’s 98% 5-star ratings on HomeAdvisor, Angie’s List, Yelp, and Google prove they’re building great relationships with customers and offering good service.
Richard hopes to continue to build on Drain Away’s success. They focus mainly on residential service, with a little commercial work in the mix. In the future, they hope to add another 758 jetter and camera.
Richard says his experience during the Great Recession that led to the founding of Drain Away taught him that sometimes you have to fail to succeed. This business takes discipline and consistency, but you can build something you’re truly proud of.
We’re inspired by Richard’s story of finding success, and we wish the team at Drain Away many more years of success. Thank you for being part of the Spartan family!
